Carnival Sunrise (formerly Carnival Triumph) features an exciting splash zone for kids and a piano bar where adults can sing along to their favorite songs all night. The ship sails on two to five-night and six to nine-night cruises from Miami, Florida, to the Bahamas. The most likely scenario is that you'll arrive at your ship Friday afternoon for a three-night cruise, which will deliver you back to port on Monday morning. Depending on your working hours, you might need to take a half day off on Friday and arrive late to work on Monday. If you've got a flexible schedule or Fridays off — no problem. A few lines offer Thursday or Saturday departures for three-night cruises, but they're rare and would require more missed school or work.

MAKE OUR DESTINATIONS YOUR DESTINATIONS.

When school is out, you can expect the number of kids to be well into the hundreds. There’s no time like the present to start planning – check out our destinations and itineraries. Initially built in 2019 for Costa Cruises, this ship joined the Carnival fleet in 2023. Carnival Venezia is ideal if you’re looking for a ship that celebrates one of Italy’s most iconic cities. Venice is the inspiration behind the indoor and outdoor areas, including the atrium, modeled after Piazza San Marco, and the Carnevale Lounge, inspired by Venetian masquerades.

Carnival Celebration is all about never-ending good times. During my recent sailing, I found all the Carnival classics, like the Alchemy Bar and Guy’s Burger Joint, a thrilling ropes course, dive-in movies, and plenty of themed deck parties. Rent cabanas or lounge in the ocean-view whirlpools at Loft 19, where attentive staff take care of everything, like delivering you fruit and chilled towels.
Day 4: Port Canaveral (Orlando)
On the Pacific Coast, weekend cruises from Los Angeles, San Diego or Long Beach in California (near Los Angeles) head to Ensenada, Mexico for a quick getaway. Farther north, you might find a short repositioning sailing between Seattle or San Francisco and Vancouver, British Columbia at the beginning or end of the Alaska cruise season. Who doesn’t like the traditional Memorial Day food grilled up just right? Visitors can also enjoy a tasty, juicy steak or some all-American apple pie. If you’re looking for something a bit more Southern — or even south of the border — we also boast a barbecue restaurant (Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que) and a Mexican cantina (BlueIgauna Cantina). With so many tasty options, you can celebrate the freedom of choice when you cruise — and don’t worry, we’ll even handle the cleanup.

Narrowing down the departure port
With 14 zip-lines weaving between trees and through caves, this aerial escapade is an airborne adventure that’ll have your whole crew screaming with joy and laughter. Click here to explore more onboard activities for kids and teens. However, our last day – a port stop in Bimini, Bahamas – definitely didn’t eek out as much value, as I only ordered a few drinks. Knowing I could have saved some money on this port-intensive day did give me pause. Drink package in hand, I ordered a second pint of ThirstyFrog in the Atrium Bar while listening to the strings trio play classical hits. Seeing the bill print out with a balance of $0.00 was a bit of a rush I wasn’t expecting.
Guests can also rent a relaxing private bungalow or cabana, take a bike adventure around the island, or try their hand at scuba diving! With so many things to do, you may just need to come back after the holidays. Memorial Day can be a great holiday to spend outdoors with your friends and family (or your family of friends).

You can’t pay for a dirt-cheap cruise and expect to have a luxurious experience. You don't need to be able to tell a Monet from a Renoir to dine in our two artful dining rooms, you just need to be hungry. You don't even need to be a critic to enjoy Dive-In Movies, where cinematic favorites are up on the big screen, poolside.
Pros and cons of weekend cruises
For a week-long cruise, maybe I could validate that cost, but not a weekend cruise. For the seven ships I was looking at, I had 3 possible departure ports; Galveston, Miami, and Orlando. Galveston and Orlando are both about 45 minutes from the airport, which can add up to a rather pricey uber/taxi ride. On top of that, I didn’t want to add another 2 hours of travel to get to the ship and back if it was just a weekend trip. The port is so easy and convenient to get to from the airport, and there are tons of hotels.
Cruise Ships to Look Forward to in 2023
Since this trip would just be a weekend getaway, I decided to book an interior cabin to save some money. I’ve stayed in tiny and “efficient” hotel rooms over the years, and they all worked out fine, so why wouldn’t it be good on a cruise ship? The cabin looks quant, and I can’t imagine having four people in one of these, but for two people for a short cruise, it could work.
On a weekend cruise, the Fun Squad was working around the clock! They hosted all of the onboard events and activities to keep the party going. That evening, we noticed most people weren’t even getting dressed up for dinner. Most people were still on the pool deck drinking even as the sun went down and the sail-away music stopped. It seemed like everyone came to dinner without even changing from their pool-party attire.
Unfortunately, even though I have sailed Royal Caribbean before, they offered me no discount or promotion for booking another cruise with them. I know some frequent cruisers score good deals with Royal Caribbean, but apparently, I’m not one of them. The Norwegian Joy is a beautiful ship, and I would have been happy to sail on it. It was built in 2017 and heavily refurbished in 2019 when it was removed from the Asian market and relocated to North America.
Connecting rooms may be great for families, but they can have extra noise from the cabin next door if they don’t know the people there. The drawbacks are the lack of choice in destination and cruise line. You won't be able to try every restaurant or attraction on board your cruise ship because you simply won't have enough time. Three-night Mexico cruises at press time are starting at $149 per person ($50 per night), with balconies from $237 ($79 per night).
You can tack them onto a longer vacation in Florida or California to combine two trips into one. The cheapest balcony cabin I found was just shy of $200 total for one person (under $65 per night), though fares in the $200s and $300s were more common. Not to mention that Carnival cruises have a well-known stereotype of having a rowdy and crazy crowd onboard. Carnival also heavily leads into its "Fun" branding - everywhere you look, something has the word fun in it. Every announcement makes mention of Carnival being the most fun fleet in the industry!
